Who We Are:
CAPRCBM was founded in 1968. It is governed by an eighteen
member board of Directors composed of elected officers and directors who
are park and recreation commissioners and/or board members of city,
county, or special recreation and park districts. Directors,
representing northern and southern California, are elected for staggered
three year terms.
CAPRCBM is affiliated with the California Park and Recreation Society
(CPRS) and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).
These relationships provide CAPRCBM members the same benefits that
professional members receive.
Each year, the Association awards scholarships to deserving
California college and university students majoring in recreational or
leisure studies programs. Educational workshops and seminars are
presented to p&r commissioners/board members by CAPRCBM on various
topics on a self-sustaining basis. Also, the Association supports
state and federal legislation of interest and concern to park and
recreation agencies. Members are kept abreast of such legislation
and have ample opportunities to actively participate in this program.
CAPRCBM provides many avenues to meet and discuss p&r issues and
problems with city, county, and special district commissioners, board
members and professionals throughout the state and to become acquainted
with what is happening in other communities. Communication with
peers brings knowledge about current issues affecting parks and
recreation, and opportunities to share state-of-the-art programs and
events with colleagues and explore innovative and fundraising
idea-sharing. |
