Joan started her professional parks and recreation
career in 1965. Since that time she has risen from Recreation Specialist I
to Parks Director and retired from the city of Lakewood in 2006. Joan
became a parks and recreation commissioner after moving to La Quinta in the
Coachella Valley of Riverside County. Her illustrious career included being
CPRS President, Chairperson of CPRS State Scholarship Board, CPRS Personnel
Board, Board member of numerous non-profit organizations, and involved in a
leadership capacity on many community and civic organizations.
Joan was a part-time lecturer at California State
University, Long Beach and California State University, Los Angeles. She has
presented numerous workshops at state and national park conferences and has
attended several courses in event planning and providing public recreation
services. She possesses a Master of Science degree from CSULA and a
Bachelors degree CSULB. She became a member of the CAPRCBM Board in 2009.
