Student, California State University, Long Beach
Currently, Brandy Bandaruk is the executive administrator for the CalState, Long Beach Associated Students, Inc. overseeing event planning, which includes concerts, barbeques, ceremonies, pep rallies and organizational fairs. Also a member of the student council, she volunteers for special events sponsored by the Aquarium of the Pacific. Through this involvement, as Brandy states, “I have gained many skills for the recreation profession including public speaking and leadership skills.” Her major in recreation and leisure studies with an emphasis in travel and tourism has led her to two relevant minors, French and history, leading her to pursue a career in which “…I would like to promote, encourage, and support the concept of an international community.” During her 2007 winter school break, she studied in Greece. During the same year, she traveled to England and France, studying at the University of Paris’ language school at the Sorbonne for six weeks. She has just returned from an art history field experience in Italy to begin the New Year. Brandy, the daughter of a successful high school swim coach and community activist and water-oriented mom, has worked part time in the recreation field as an assistant swim coach in Lake Forest, and as a swim lesson instructor for the Capistrano Unified School District. Upon graduation in June, she plans to join the Peace Corps for two years, and, upon her return, to obtain an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. After that, she states, “I would like to work as an International Conference and Event Planner. Through various events and conference, I hope to continue to promote this organization’s mission of creating community through people, parks, and programs on an international level.” |
