OUTSTANDING COMMISSIONER:
Ron Ruef, Commissioner, City of Mission Viejo Parks and Recreation Commission
A
member of the Community Services Commission since January 2005 and Chairperson in 2007, Ron Ruef averages ten to twenty hours per week on
his parks and recreation responsibilities. He is also President-elect of the California Association of Parks & Recreation Commissioners & Board
Members (CAPRCBM).
Under Ron's leadership and involvement, the City
achieved the following:

Expansion of the Norman P. Muruay Community and Senior Center

Development of the City's first Community Services Master Plan Development of a restroom master plan for neighborhood
parks Completion of the Marguerite Tbnnis & Aquatics Centers Master Plan.

Completion of a new City park named after Orange
County Sheriff Sergeant Matt Davis, who was killed while on duty in a
motorcycle accident.

A donation policy for parks, facilities and recreation
programs for the public to connect with and support various City
facilities and programs.

Six Kids Factory drop-in recreation programs in
Mission Viejo elementary schools

Pubic work shop opportunities

AYSO referee, and as a field coordinator and field
marshal at the Maccabi Gomes in lrvine.

Commission meetings for the public to express their
interest and concerns regarding the development of a dog park in
Mission Viejo

Implementation of a local history collections policy
Adjustment of recreation center fees Updating of the City's Committee
Handbook for five standing committees

Establishment of the City's first annual tennis
tournament Creation of an intermediate school essay contest to promote
and recognize character qualities among intermediate school children.

Creation of the Parenting to Build Kids of Character
Workshop to educate and provide parents with skills for building
character in children.
Ron has also served on many ad hoc committees relating
to a master community services plan, restrooms for neighborhood parks,
tennis and aquatic centers, committee hand books and o controversial dog
park. He has contributed to his community as a PTA board member, an AYSO
referee, and as a field coordinator and field marshal at the Maccabi
Games in lrvine. |
